A couple of weeks of sporadic, heavy rains has delayed backfill, but finally the soil is dry enough to move around and grade.  The excavators work at an impressive pace with remarkable control over their machinery.  Within a couple hours, the house looks much more presentable from the street.

Trenches that lie below the driveway and patio are filled with gravel instead of  dirt to prevent the concrete or pavers from going out of plane due to settling forces or pressure from a vehicle.
